William Albert Allard (American Photographer Master Series)

I did not go out of my way to pursue photography as a pastime or, indeed, a hobby. It just happened. I am still unsure of the exact day that I took my first picture (although I am certain that it was captured using my £35 mobile phone). In fact the last few years have been something of a blur. Certain traumatic experiences; the loss of a loved one and dramatic changes to my way of life undoubtedly contributed to the lack of clarity I experienced. Perhaps the pictures I have taken have helped me acquire a degree of focus. Much like the subtle adjustment of the camera lens; my mind cried out for some gentle fine tuning. My images are the result of a quiet period. Introverted even. When all those close to my heart spoke in a foreign language. I didn't understand their alien words. I could not translate the guidance and advice they offered. In hindsight, I don't think I even wanted to. Nothing mattered for a long, long time. Things do matter now. Hieronymus Bosch Sept 2009
